Some of the posts/comments that I have made elsewhere but think they are worth saving

Last edited - 2025-11-03

I am trying to “save” some of the posts/comments that I haved made over various places (mostly fediverse - threadiverse(lemmy/piefed) in specific). This is not supposed to be a 100% archival, mostly things that have some value (in my eye), that in case i move accounts, or these things ever go down, I should have some other way to have them. I already do save lots of webcontent, and that also includes some of these, but that is not the best way to save it. Especially, if my idea is/was to post that thing in public, it kinda had some value for others too. I will try not to posts things others have made, I will try to just link to them, but I think in some cases it would be unavoidable.

Could I just make different files (pages) for each post - yes, but I kinda do not want to (it is not my style. I like 1 big file over many smaller files).

I will mostly try to add a “canonical” url for each thing.

I deleted 2 of my accounts - lemmy.ml/u/sga and lemmy.world/u/sga (not linked as they are non functional). Both of them had some stuff, especially the latter one had a few months worth of stuff, which I did not save in any major capacity.

I currently have the following accounts

I am mostly the “comments only” kind, and rarely post. My prefered way to use any website is to use their rss feeds, and I just check all articles/posts there. If I have anything to do about it (for example, upvote or comment), I open it.

I have recently (October 2025) started posted alot more actively on onepiece@lemmy.world, mostly theories, spoilers and leaks, and chapters as they come out. They are mostly not saved here as I barely have anything “me” generated there.

Things ideally should be in order of them being made, but I am bit lax regarding that, especially for comments and such, please forgive me.

1. Should your morals be flexible? How rigid should your moral framework be, and should it depend on background of people in consideration

there are lots of great comments which are great, almost all by others, so please do check them

For reference - https://lemmings.world/post/19791264 and all comments below the post about tolerance and non-tolerance

is it too naive for me to believe any and every lives matter? I do understand if someone is coming for my life, and i stop him by retaliating back, most nation’s laws would deem me innocent, maybe even most people will - but was it right?

It has not happened with me yet, and this is post is not politics related, a general discussion about tolerance, but I dont know how will I respond to such a situation, Is there a correct approach?

I know in a imaginary utopia - we can have a society where everyone thinks any violence, or for that matter, any evil deed is evil. And I know real world is far from being a utopia, but i believe most people can differentiate between good and bad. In my opinion, most people who do such acts are not really doing it because they enjoy it, some do because they have to, some think they have to, and they have been brain washed.

I also think if we ask a binary (yes/no) question to everyone - Is violence justified“ - most people will vote no. I know there would be some exceptions (even in perfect utopia’s like N. Korea, lords only get like 99% majority)(/s).

Now if we change question - “Is violence ever justified” - many will now vote yes, and start listing out situations where they think it is valid.

This question was also brought up in Avatar. For people who don’t know - should Aang (a person with firm opinions, and more importantly a child - 12(112) years old) kill Lord Ozai (for now, consider him embodiment of evil for simplicity, but still a human). Many shows get away from asking, by basically having monsters (non human) as the opponent, so it is does not feel morally wrong. But here the question was asked. His past lives (in this world reincarnation exists, and aang is the Avatar - person who can control all elements) also suggested he should kill him, and he is tethered to this world, and this is no utopia … In the show they got away with basically a divine intervention.

Maybe here is my real question - Is it correct to have your morals be flexible?

Now for my answer, I have almost never felt correct labeling people good or bad, I have almost always treated people depending on what the situation expects me to (maybe how I feel I should be treating). In some sense I have a very flexible stance, and in some others, I dont. For example - I never cheat on exams or assignments - I can’t justify cheating, If I am getting poor marks, then I should prepare well. But If someone else asks me to help them cheat (lets say give assignment solutions) - I dont refuse either, as I have understood, even though judging people by a few numbers is bad, world still does that - mostly to simplify things, and in that sense, a higher grade for anyone is better for them.

I dont even know what can be a answer. I dont know if it exists, or it can exist, I am not really trying to find it either, consider this just a rant at clouds.

edit - I am not asking a binary question - you are not expected to answer a yes or no, see the line just above this edit. It is not even really about violence - it is about morality

edit 2 - Changed title, old 1 is still here for full context. I dont know why I chose that title. I am not blaming anyone who answered on the basis of title, It was my bad to have some title, and ask a “not really orthogonal but generalised question” in the middle, hoping people answer that, some one did, I thank them. Many people have written (or in similar vein) - violence should be be avoided, but not when it the last thing. I understand this general sentiment - but according to me - having a excuse to ever do violence allows you to have loop hole, just blame the circumstances.

Someone gave a situation where they would do violence - someone trying to assault a kid - and I agree I would too (If I would be in such a situation).

I had a small back and forth with someone about morals - my stance is morals are frameworks to choose if a action is moral/immoral. And then the question is really how rigid should your moral framework be, and should it depend on background of people in consideration?

2. A message of Non-Violence

linked article - Nonviolent_resistance

This post was not well recieved. This and previous post were made in the same light of a certain person recently having sworn in one of the most “free” nations, and people were generally unhappy. I just wanted to make a post highlighting what I felt was kinda necessary, but apparently people believed me to be a downplayer. And generally citizens of the free nation want to “fight” for everything, especially when they have not seen what can happen first hand many times.

I don’t want to write a very long post, but I just wanted to remind everyone about this.

I recently learnt about protest on February 5th, and just wanted to spread this. The wiki page has a huge table of non-violent protests.

I know many people are disheartened, and in such circumstances, people often resort to violence (sometimes to send messages, sometimes in response to another violence, sometimes in catharsis).

I am from land of Gandhi, and a huge admirer of his work. Many people even in my country today feel Gandhi was useless or found him problematic for n number of reasons, some partially valid, many not, but this post is not about him. What I want to highlight is his idea of Satyagraha - it is essentially a exercise in (and for) truth. 2 famous non violent movements of his time being civil disobedience and non-cooperation. Names give the core ideas away - but essentially - break laws peacefully. To elaborate - 1 of them was against a salt tax law. They just made salt, and did not pay tax. It was both literal and symbolic, in the sense that they stopped paying taxes - and EIC were hit both financially and political power wise.

And these are not the only peacefully protests our land, one of the most recent ones was a farmers protest (for context, in India, majority people are still employed by farming), and roughly after a year of protest, they got there demands met.

I wanted to add a US specific example, and I can’t think of anything better than Stop War protests regarding Vietnam War.

TL;DR - Peaceful protests work, you just have to be persistent

3. In situ additive ceramic manufacturing

I never really got an answer for this. Maybe my google fu is really bad.

I had this effectively a shower thought idea - why don’t we have ceramic 3d printing?

Let me clarify - before posting, I looked it up, and I could not find exactly what I was looking for. There are already commercial offereings for Clay 3D printing, but that is not forming the ceramic in situ, we are depositing what is effectively ceramic in a solvent, and drying it. What I was thinking was making the ceramic on site.

Here is a example setup

Now I can think of many problems here

Does this process already exist? If it does - any resources related to it would be helpful. If not, Why? Is it because we have not been able to solve the issues I listed, something I did not list? Would this be practical (economically)? I can definitely see both artistic and engineering use cases, and both of those can allow some big budgets.

4. YSK you can use custom keyboard symbols(keys), so you can easily enter symbols like αβγδ, or swap : -> ; and ; -> :

Many people might already be knowing this, for example people who use custom keyboard layouts, or people using different keyboard layouts, other than US, which most manufacturers and operating system and desktop environmnets use as default.

Most of my applications use vi like bindings, so pressing shift + ; to get : was a bit annoying, and so i was trying to find a way to swap them, and while doing so, I added most of greek alphabet, makes my technical writing a bit more easier (instead of doing $alpha$, I can do alt + a to get $α$), If you use TeX, then you can use XeTeX to enter unicode, I use Typst, so I can directly use them, and they are used appropriately in text and equation mode. This also is helpful if your notes system does not have some math mode rendering (like plain markdown, without any katex). If you are multilingual, but don’t write much in the other language, this approach works well, if you write comparable amount in both languages, then you should consider setting a keyboard shortcut in you DE/WM config to switch the keyboard layouts

The following procedure is linux specific (or maybe other posix systems too, if they use xkb to manage keyboard stuff (this also works on wayland)), but I am sure windows and macos will have something similar (though i have not bothered to check for it, sorry for that). This does not work as a daemon sitting in between, this is using the standard way to modiify keyboard layout.

You can start by making a file like the following, and you can start with /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us (or the base language of your choice, for most european language layouts, base is /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/latin). You have to save it in the /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ directory (in my case, my original file is in config dir, and I have symlinked it to /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us-custom). For list of valid symbols (most of unicode, the thing we want is the correct names) please refer /usr/include/X11/keysymdef.h. You can choose what modifier you want to use with include "level3(ralt_switch)" - I am using right alt as the third modifier, so to get the third layer, I go alt + <key>, for 4th layer, mod3 + shift + <key>. Then you can set to use this custom symbol map in your DE/WM config, in my case I have added xkb_layout "us-custom" in my sway config (for input keyboard).

// parent system is US, with a lot of greek sybols appended, and some more
// ; -> :, : -> ; - mostly for vim modes (easier to do : now)
default partial alphanumeric_keys modifier_keys
xkb_symbols "basic" {
name[Group1]= "English US - Custom";
include "level3(ralt_switch)"

5. Uplifting News moderation related posts

Following posts were warranted because there was tonnes of “Schadenfreude” posted, and we as mods were tired. Due to nature of news, it got lots of votes, but these were not uplifting, and often toxic. In the beggining, I made a post out of frustation, a month later a community member did (this post has since been deleted, but it was titled Look up what “Uplifting” means and was just a rant about why communtiy sucks (it did)), and this sparked another round of debate, which lead to a vote, and schadenfreude was banned. And then a anouncement was done.

5.1. Questions from a moderator

this post was not recieved well. mostl people who commented did in good spirit, but still was net negative in vote count. majorly gave the idea that we should ban politics, but I did not enact upon it see the vote.

Before beginning, I know this is not appropriate question, and there may be better places to ask these questions. I also know that I as a mod am kinda abusing my powers and breaking the 1 important rule - to post a uplifting news, and this post is neither uplifting nor a news. I also do not know how it is decided in other communities, I am a relatively new mod, so I do not know how to act in certain situations. But by the powers that have been vested to me by the gods (previous mods), I want to ask a lot of questions.

Also for the time being, lets say the world has 2 major groups, martians, and venusians, there are other minority groups too, but if funded govts can not bother to listen to them, how can i, a under paid corrupt mod do that. (/s just in case people do not get it).

What I am basically asking is, is please help me make a ‘constitution’ (for the galactic rulings, obviously) on how should I (or maybe others if they choose to accept it) moderate, certain galaxy.

More seriously, please help discuss democratically, what should be the rules. To you questions may seem to have obvious answers, they did to me too, but what was not obvious, that different people have different obvious things (mind blown /s). And you all will get a chance to be “immortalized” by getting your name in the constitution drafting committee.

-> my current understanding -> anything that breaks obvious rules. Lets say a martian, non sarcastically says - all venusianns are morons, illeterate wild animals who do not deserve to live. I would consider this as hate speech, and delete it. If someone posts something nsfw, but does not mark it appropriately, i should delete it. But what if someone posts something stupid - lets say someone thinks venusians have seven legs, when they actually have 4, and say, i want all 7 legged venusians to die. What should i do - should i upvote it, considering it is a attempt at humor, and support them, or delete it since they are still killing “hypothetical” venusians, or ignore them (that is what i have been doing right now for some reports)

-> similar to prior, so not explaining any further. Sometime back, i had a discussion with another mod, that we should have a strike system - something like, post hate speech 3 times, or something alike, then we ban, because you were given ample chances to figure out that you are doing something wrong (there comments would still be deleted, they would still get the downvote beating, just not a instant ban)

these questions were general, and not community specific, but following are

there are going to be lots of situations, to which you have to vote yes or no, is it uplifting or not (you are welcome to write 20 para replies too, but atleast 1 letter is required, something like 1 y, 2 n)

1) a female dog gave birth to ten little cubs

2a) cure to cancer has been found, and the researchers have patented it, and selling it for 1 million usd (for each patient) (and i know there is no 1 single cure to cancer, consider a hypothetical situation)

2b) cure to cancer has been found, and they make it free for all

3a) linux market share grows by 5 times, used by 30% of desktop users

3b) microsoft windows is now open source

3c) apple makes all their hardware designs open

Also, for the following part - any resemblence to reality is purely coincedental and unintended, i do not even live in mars or venus to know much about their politics. 4) (this question requires context) - We all know about the martian leader, he is currently leading everyone, some martians love him, others are ok with him, but he absolutely hates all venusians, and does not even acknowledge existence of saturnians, and calls them confused folk (because saturnians wear rings on them). He lies, he robs, he takes away the very last saved bite you keep while eating the food (the best bite™).

4a) the martian leader is defeated in a peaceful manner

4b) the martian leader has been taken down in a millitary coup

4c1) people march to martian leaders door, and he leaves under pressure

4c2) people march to martian leaders door, and he leaves after a bit of riot (a “few” people become “martyrs”)

4d) the martian leader today opened amusement park

4e) the martian leader finds cure to cancer, and makes it free

4f1) martian leader is sad because his house has been a lot less “dusty” lately (he loves sand, because it coarse, rough, and gets everywhere)

4f2) martian leader is sad because his house has been a lot more “dusty” lately (he hates sand, because it coarse, rough, and gets everywhere)

4g) he is sad because his dog died

4f) he is sad because his business is making less profits.

I will not reveal my answers here, not to bias you people, but i would leave my general strategy in the spoilers section below

::: spoiler spoiler

To me something is upliftng, if i can tell it a youngling, a growing learning mind. Their brain is pure, maybe not ready to comprehend the vast world. To them, there are only simple rules - you see someone injured, you dress them. You see someone crying, ask why, if you can not help, ask someone else, and so on. This should be enough to get most questions answered from my perspective

5.2. Schadenfreude is now banned. And many other political posts of similar nature are banned too. Low quality and fake news is also banned.

It has been 15 days since the post about future of politics in this community was made, and results are somewhat clear - 35 (39 - 4) in favor of no poltics vs 4 (7 - 3) in favor of poltical natured posts.

If I use politcal lingo, this would be a landslide victory of no politics faction.

What does this mean”?

Who is “We”?

I am speakinng currently for collective group of moderators, and also the community itself (as in, we do not do that here).

We are banning schadenfreude - which roughly translates to feeling joy at someone else’s misfortune. What that means is, if there is someone who you (or a lot of people) do not like gets some disease which they could not have planned for (for example cancer), then this is not a uplifting news. If they are making losses, that is not uplifting. If they are depressed, that is not uplifting. We will not be retroactively actively removing posts, but future posts of this nature will be deleted as per understanding of moderators or community (by means of votes or reports).

We are also banning politics. That by itself is a statement political in nature. Everything is political but what we are banning is the more clearer mainstream politics. We do not really want to know if this group we do not like lost/won somewhere. But what is acceptable is, for example, some good person (good because other things they have done in life) is awarded something. This can be political in nature (example, a nobel prize), and there is no clear way to put in words what is and is not allowed. If yoou have a better method to express this, then please add in comments.

More clarification - we are not banning news which maybe political in nature, but which is toxic politics. if there is a news which is political, lets say some marginalised group got better rights, that is allowed, or even welcomed. Think simple - if you can tell some small kid the news, and they feel good, then it is uplifting. It should not require you to know what the person has done in past. If something bad happens to a bad person, then that is still bad, it does not become uplifting for a kid. this example by itself also has flaws, and I am still unable to word it well. But I hope the spirit of rule is clearer. no toxicity.

We are also banning low effort news or fake news. This could be news which is not adding anything new at all or is a copy of a copy of a copy (and bad one). Please try to fetch original sources. This is just to maintain a standard. This does not restrict you from posting a news which is targeted at a small group, or is published by a small group which may not be publishing a very fancy, furnished looking posts. Essentially - a no fluff rule.

6. What are the odds that a brand a new sentence is said every second?

A brand new sentence is a sentence which we consider to have never been spoken or written, or thought of (at least the ones which are not recorded). And just swapping a noun with another noun (for example a name of a place or person) while may techinically be considered new sentence, it is not really matching the spirit of brand new sentence.

for the linguists, can you try to come up with a better estimate (better than just coming up (all the words)^(to the power average sentence length)). Maybe by using the description of using different forms of verbs (like we consider in NLP) (verbs which take DP, CP), then adding standard adjectives and finish with remaining grammar (sorry if I am getting it all wrong, it has been a while since I took my intro to linguistics class). Also, consider a morpheme less form. This exercise is for a more realistic guess.

This is really, really messy to calculate. It depends on:

With all of that said, I’ve calculated this for a specific situation: a corpus containing a single one word sentence, you’re uttering a new one word sentence, and you want to know if they’re identical.

The chance both sentences are identical because they use the same word will be:

The odds both sentences will be identical will be the sum of all odds above, so:

Technically this is not an infinite series because vocab isn’t infinite, but it’s easier if we pretend that it is - because then the second factor becomes a convergent series, determined to converge to π²/6 = 1.64. So we can simplify the formula to p = 1.64 k², where “k” is the frequency of the most common word.

For example, the first link contains Zipf’s Law data for English, with “the” at 7% and “of” at 3.5%; so for English k=0.07. So the odds both one-word sentences are identical, in English, are (0.07)2*1.64 = 8.0*10-3 = 0.8%.

sga

i think you have already given a pretty good and structured method to analyse the situation. Thanks!

lets consider a world where everyone speaks english. Lets also consider some average sentence length (i don’t think sentence lengths would follow a normal distribution, i think they follow a poissonian (or something alike), essentially peaking around mean, and then sentences get rarer as they get longer (but the rate of decrease gets practically constant). I think this is also a better fit for language like english, where with enough amounts of conjuncts and clause phrase substitutions (with verbs and dps here and there) sentences can get to virtually infinte length. English even has a loophole of having ‘;’ which is kinda like full stop, but does not really count as one. (I do not really know how this is classified properly in linguistics, my guess is that it would a conjunction, but then some over powered kind, which allows to break regular grammar rules).

if we pick sentence structure for each verb class (untransitive(not sure if this is what it is called, but the ones which either only require a subject or object), and transitive (normal and di), and then get similar zipfian data for occurence of these, we can cover a lot sentences. Since the sentences do not really have to mean anything (i ate broccoli is just as valid as broccoli ate me) we can then just have list of all dps, and also pick 0, 1, 2 or 3 adjective, and maybe 1 numP (iirc, we were told that we usually do not use more than 3 adjectives), so we can have a complete DP, and then just permutations all DPs with each verb class, then waited by ziph.

if we have m number of adjectives, n number of numP, o number of distinct nouns (lets say just all nouns in a big source like wiki), then (m + 1)3 * (n + 1) * o (the plus 1 is for null) lets call this some constant D. then for a verb, v with zipf frequency z, all possible ways would be D - v, v - D, D - v - D, D - v - D, D. This is assuming CP don’t exist.

this would give a very big number (adding all the cases), then just divide with number of speakers (available, in a speaking condition every second). I think this should be some kind of estimate.

Please correct me on stuff i got wrong, i am very new to this stuff.

Lvxferre

Poisson does make more sense, and it would be easier to work with. In that case the odds of a single sentence having a specific length n would be p = (λn* e) / n!; for English λ should be around 18 words/sentence.

> English even has a loophole of having ‘;’ which is kinda like full stop, but does not really count as one. (I do not really know how this is classified properly in linguistics, my guess is that it would a conjunction, but then some over powered kind, which allows to break regular grammar rules).

The semicolon is simply punctuation; a conjunction would be a word, like “and”. Since the semicolon is mostly used to connect related albeit independent sentences, I think it’s fair to treat it like a full stop.

7. YSK about your search engines, and whether they have a independent search index or not

linked to A look at search engines with their own indexes

Most people either use google as their search engine, or one of the “privacy friendly ones” (ddg, qwant, brave, startpage, …), or use self hosted or publicly available metasearch engines, like searxng, or whoogle, etc.

This websites lists out websites which have their own indexes, and which depend on big providers.

Why YSK?

It is good for your privacy to not use a big provider like google, which now prefers to serve you ai generated ssummaries, which are based on a few giant websites, and this is not good for a open web.

I am also a person who almost always uses “(insert query) reddit” to get better results, because I mostly do not want SEO spam, and reddit results used to be human generated content. Now even that is hit and miss. Also, reddit made a deal with google, so for newer results from reddit, you can only get them from google.

Then we have the “privacy friendly ones” which most of the time are wrappers for other bigger indexes, for example ddg famously uses bing, brave “suppliments” (read this suppliments as almost always) it’s results from google, startpage is basically a google frontend, etc. Brave, qwant, and few others also claim to have their own indexes, but they are small and not rich as google and bing. Also, wwhen you think about it - what is their business model - how do they get money for the search apis - most either serve ads or have some form of tracking. Also, bing has “kinda” closed it’s search api (not really clear about this), so many of these privacy friendly options will have to either switch to google, or only serve using their indexes.

Meta-search engines kinda seem like better options, as you can run searxng on your own machine, or use the public ones, but it still has problems. You are still bringing the big providers traffic, which makes their advertisement clients happier and prefer them over smaller search engines. If you use a public instance, then it is good for your privacy, but the public instance would now generate a lot traffic, and often get banned or rate limited, and hence you can not rely on them. If you use your personal instances (I did this for a long time), you will still be tracked as your IP is still visible. You avoid their annoying ui and popups but still are tracked.

So what should you use?

You can only decide this. I would prefer something which has a reasonable business model - if they do advertisement, that should ideally be non tracking. Ideally their client and server code should be foss (so you can verify their claims), or have paid plans or apis if you do not want ads.

For example, Kagi has only paid plans, but I do not prefer or use them, because they are expensive (5 dollars for 300 searches per month or something similar. I am from one of third world countries, and 5 dollars is a lot. plus 300 searches seem less to me) but that is subjective, and your privacy has a price, so this is not neccessarily a objectively bad thing. But their code is closed source, and they do not completely use their own indexes.

I have also used Mullvad’s Leta search engine for about a month, and they are now effectively frontends for brave search or google (you can choose). Their business plan initially was that Leta was only available to their VPN clients, and VPN subscription would supplement the search cost. Now they have it available for free, so I do not really understand their business plan (maybe the number of clients they have is large enough, and number of leta users is small, that they can afford to run leta for loss, and maybe as possible advertisement for mullvad. Mullvad to me is a good privacy centric company. I am not their client, but they seem to be trust worthy. You can try them, but you would still support some big provider.

You can also try the independent search providers listed in the article. They are often small, serve bad (subjectively speaking; your taste regarding search engines is also heavily tuned to google like results because of years of exposure to it) results, but using them also supports open web (you would often find that these smaller providers do not have good indexes for big websites, and sometimes it is intentional, sometimes it is a byproduct of them being careful, or the websites banning/rate limiting then).

I have now started trying stract, and will try others too. You should also consider trying some independent search engines.

In my personal case - I have a offline setup where I have large sections of wikipedia and a few other websites (like programning language docs, or my favorite manga wiki, will be adding much of stack overflow soon) available offline, and I use my custon launcher to search through them (faster then searching them online). I bookmark a lot of sites (  2000) and do this to stop searching the same stuff over and over again. This has reduced at least 30-40% of all my searches. But I still need a search engine for anything I do not have currently, or stuff I do not/ can not get. I am trying stract, because it is open source, they seen to have some fine plans for business in future (non tracking, current search term related ads or subscription service ; currenlty they are running on previous funding from nlnet); search results are acceptable (not good, but servicable); and finally - it is written in RUST (I an a rust fan). I am not affiliated with the project, but just spreading a good word because I just found them, and could not find much online.

8. Can you please help me clear some doubts regarding LGBTQIA stuff?

This post really is a gem, so please check it out directly. It explains gender and sex to supid me

TL;DR - why do we need so many terms? can we all not use just a simplified pronoun system (as explained below, or if someone else comes up with something better), and can we stop adding a sexual preferences as a part of gender, as that is something too personal in my opinion?

I primarily want to understand how it relates to a person’s identity.

Before starting, let me partially introduce myself. I am a male, and If I get my terms correctly, I am possibly Aero Ace. I am (possibly) coming of a privilige that my percieved gender identity is same as that of what I accept myself to be. Also, I have not read any literature or watched much content about this stuff. I am not asking anything about why would someone have a “different gender”. I just want to understand how it relates to you as a being.

And before going ahead, I am not sure gender is the best word or not. If it is not, please correct me. And I am sorry in advance in case I say stupid or bizzare or straight wrong stuff. Please forgive me if possible.

Also I am quite ramble-y, so reading and understanding what I write may be hard, or non-sensical, so pardon me for that too.

My first question is, why do we have so many terms? I know the answer is somewhat obvious, that everyone has there own preferences, and it may not align with someone else, so to identify themselves, they would get a different label. (kinda like names, if everyone had same names, it would cause confusion) But I also want to ask, Is using a label not somewhat alienating?

Try to understand my perspective, I have almost never mentioned my gender to anyone. Possibly it is because my “attire” says it. Or maybe it is because I am not a very social person, or the fact that I have never had a “personal” conversation with some other person. My general conversational idea is how it goes with siblings - slightly informal, a lot of stupid slander, and jokey stuff, and the actual stuff. If someone comes to me, and mentions there gender, I kinda do not know how to process it. because as I understand, 1 part of gender ideentity is what “orientation” (sorry if it is a bad way to put it, but I want to mean how they dress, or how they want to adressed as) and another is sexual preferences. I understand that If I know there gender, I can atleast address them as they prefer (also I do not know how to do it in general. I am an old school guy, I use they/them/their for people older than me (as a form of honorification), with small children (it is somewhat amusing, and also children like it when they get respeect) and whenever I do not know what gender a person is, or how does that gender prefered to be addressed). But this gave me the thought, that why do we not use the same pronouns for everyone (for example they/them), or maybe 2 pairs, one for formal, one informal, or 1 more pair, for singular and plural. Why do pronouns have to depend on gender?

The second part is sexual prefernces. I do not know much about sex or sexual preferences. I am a young adult, and have not had to know about this for any person that I have met yet. I have never had the interest to know about this for someone, neither have I retained this information. I understand that if you are looking out for partner/s, then you would have to share this, so we would have to use some words for it. But why do we have to keep this as a part of gender. As in, why would I want to share this information with my governments (who do census), or for my visa applications. Should this not just be something personal?

I understand that one reason to have some words for it is inclusivity. If, for example, we want some group to better assimilate with society, and we want to do some “positive discrimination” (I do not know if this is appropriate wording or not, what I mean is for example, reservations, or some other kind of actions to integrate some people in society), then we would need some terms to make rules with. And that makes sense, but then again I feel that revealing your preferences is a bit too revealing. Am I overblowing this? I also understand that completely ditching the sexual part from gender might not be possible today. It would probably require a more accepting society. For example, in most places, gay marriage is still illegal. I do not know why laws have to have laws defining marriage (it may have something to do with subsidies going for marriages, or definitions of families/spouse being used by insurance companies or any other banking system, where your spouse also gets certain benefits/rights), or gay adoption is illegal, but can we not make something like - any reasonable person/s can adopt anyone (where reasonable part is just to maybe seculde criminals, or people with prior histories of child related offences, or if they are not financially stable - but all this is very separate discussion)

If a person tells me their gender, how should I react/respond to it? Is my current line of actions appropriate (just address them with their preferd pronouns, and if I do not know that, use they/them; completely ignore the sexual part of it)

Another thing that I want to ask is, why do some groups use different acronyms? I remeber hearing about this the first time, and the word used was LGBT. Then I heard LGBTQ, then LGBTQIA+, and today I heard LGBTQ2. I presume that since more people are getting aware, and they are trying to express themselves, they need some newer words, and hence the acronym would keep on evolving, if so, is it not a endless exercise? Am I being insensitive If I use one over other (for quite some time, I have been sticking with lgbtqia+, in hope that + means extensions, as in, others, so hopefully it is less excluding than others, but if that is not the case, please correct me.)

9. A possible way to host “stuff” which is meant for a small community?

This post kinda fits (and kinda does not) both piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com and privacy@programming.dev. Please forgive if it feels out of place.

I used to host a “drive” for my collegemates (and juniors), which consisted of all the courses and related material (lecture notes (official, or what i made), software, code, research articles, assignments, media, video lectures, books, test, etc…). Earlier I used sharepoint (onedrive) which our college had made a deal with ms to get (1 tb for everyone). But at some point sharepoint started “faultering” (while I am almost certain it was not realted to pirated books and stuff, but there was a small chance that it was), and I then switched to proton ( i got a yearly plan with student discount - coming to something around $2/month for mail and 15 GB storage). Earlier this year, I switched to posteo for mail provider (multiple reasons, but one of the primary ones was cost ($1 without discounts), a simple imap setup), but kept the stuff on proton drive. Now my subscription for proton has ran out, and do not plan to renew it.

I am not the only one who does this kinda stuff, but I was first in our department. Other departments (older than us) already had some other long running drives, which essentially become useless when original maker graduates, so new stuff has to be made for each batch. Also, most other drives are hosted on google drive, or sharepoint. I could consider the college sharedrive again, but recently microsoft broke the deal, stating our college was using too much storage (something like 50-60 TiB), and then froze acceess for everyone. this was sorted, with weeks of down time, and our limit decreased to 15 GB (1.5% of previos limit). I do not want that to happen with my drive. I also take some prestige in my drive, because it is arguably the best organised, and has the most stuff (i find many books, if not available, get them from library, or purchase them, then scan and ocr, or assignments, which you are not meant to share with others, but i do mostly because for end sems they serve as practice).

I want a “semi anonymous” (anyone can see/upload stuff without accounts) (semi because tonnes of stuff has my personal identity (name on assignments and tests), somewhat private and “piracy friendly” (so no mainstream stuff like google and onedrive works, especially because i currently do not have a account for either to upload), and non public (or at least, be something like a very long and random url, stuff which will likely not end up on search engine indices). I am willing to pay too, provided, once i get access to drive, others can upload/download stuff without accounts (people will likely not sign up for random stuff, yet another step of friction)(sharepoint was good in this aspect. you could make a public link to which anyone could upload. they did not have edit access (delete/modify existing files) without login, but those operations are relatively rare).

What I have considered, but can not be done -

Why not possible?

is there some other drive provider I can consider? which has good usability, and mostly anon? there is mega drive/pcloud, icecloud, and many others, who provide somewhat private/anonymous viewing. some of them have quite generous free plans too, so I can use some of them as backups. but most do not have a “qol” features (for example, afaik, mega drive does not do previews, they download in a wierd way in browser memory, and then to your filesystem, others have little information available).

I could consider maybe something like archive.org, if I do a very tedious task of making most of stuff not have my names, and making a archive.org account is easy , but that is still a deterrent.

edits -

PS: For anyone wondering about legality or ethics of this drive - it is a mixed bag. I definitely have copyrighted works which I did not acquire properly. I share stuff which I am not supposed to. hence i decided to post on piracy subreddit.

on to ethics - many of our professors know about this. most are fine with it. some complain that I am ruining future students, by providing most stuff in a easy single spot, and that leads them to not go to classes or stuff. But i disagree with them. kids not going to classes is only weakly dependent on availability of notes, but stongly dependent on the nature of course, for example teachers interactivity or teaching style. Some professors even like the drive, and also use it (as a reference for what was taught earlier, or questions they have already used.) IMO, their tests become better (less rote learning type stuff, and more applications based stuff, for which you can come up with questions for).

A funny side story - My drive was used in a “mass cheating” case. In one of our programming related courses (we are not studying computer science, and this course was a effectively - how to use python to do some scientific computation). Our prof was very chill, and allowed people to use internet freely, and even allowed using chatgpt (at that time, it was like a few months old) to write the programs (essentially, we were expected to know the “science”, and formulate a good set of equations, and then use python (or any other language for that matter). so allowing use of internet/gpt was just to allow people not good at programming, but good at the actual science to perform well too.). He also knew about my drive, and encouraged people to check it. (I got most of the packages setup for most people, also had a good relationship with the prof prior to course). During midsem, a “eureka” like moment hit. My drive would largely automatically sync stuff once a day. what if, during exam, my drive would sync, lets just say, every 10 minutes, then my solutions (as i write them) would be avaialable on the drive in during the exam, and somewhat frequently updated. But it would feel odd for everyone to check a single drive, the same file, at the same time. So I also wrote small curl scripts for windows and mac folks, which would pull the required file every 10 or so minutes from the drive. Now it would feel as if everyone was checking some other code (probably old code from class)(ot was a open book/notes/internet exam). Was what i did technincally rule breaking ? - no, people were allowed to use my drive, i just made much of that process automated. Was it ethical ? - definitely not. I knew what I was doing was wrong, but I was doing it one part for the giggles. Also, I was not the one who actually came up with the idea (someone gave a rough proto-idea, upon which i further developed upon). What was the result? No one caught the cheating. Teaching instructors (tas) find it normal for people to check otheer files, or a terminal process running. Not everyone used it. I was not checking from others, but roughly 80+% of class was using it. But someone snitched (i got to know did that fairly soon. he also cheated). Luckily, no disciplinary action was taken against me (I could have been suspended, or even rusticated, since it was a mass cheating), but the prof was very chill. He did scold me a lot. did not talk with me in his usual jovial manner for few weeks, but it eventually got ok. NOBODY (including me) got any punishment or point deduction.

edits 2 PS2: while reading the last part again, I realised what i had done was something close to implementing a adblock. you are allowed to close the ads manually (like checking drive manually). It is only frowned upon, if a program (like ublock) closes all the ads (in this case, by blocking ads from being even fetched, in the background) (like using a curl script to fetch the file in background).

10. llms and memory usage

no link for this - sorry

Heuristic is correct, but there is more to it. these models are MoE(mixture of experts) - essentially tinier models which are more specialised. At a given time, n out of m may be active (usually n is 2, I have heard there is not much increase with increase in n beyond 2). You can consider something like 1 expert is in ball park of 2B, and lets say there are 8-9 of them. Then there are some extra “mandatory layers” which have to be there (you can assume that they orchestrate stuff)(at least that is how I have understood this). Benefits of these “sparse” models is that at any given time, only n of them are being used, and hence compute is faster. Most big models are MoEs (the deepseek 670+, or kimi 1000+), with size of experts never practically exceeding 30s (B). The largest open dense model afaik was the llama 405B, and below that some 100+ cohere and mistral stuff, but that was 1+ year ago (decades in ai terms). Industry found that MoEs were in general better bang for buck. MoEs have disadvantage that you have to hold all of the model in memory (not necessarily vram, ram is fine too, but ideally you should not be reading from disk) (the n active experts out of m keep on changing, so for each expert, if you have to read from storage, it is that much slower), but actual compute happens with n experts, so it is fast. As a general rule of thumb, you can consider that a MoE will always be stupider than its equal weight dense (single large model), but much faster. But training large model gets very hard. So you train many small models, and package together (you do not really train them separately, but that is a separate discussion).

Now back to vram requirements - if using non quantised model, each param will take 1 or 2 Bytes of space in memory (fp8 or fp16). Now 1 Billion bytes = 1 GB memory (not GiB), so 20B fp16 model would be ~40GB model. here fp16 is floating point number, with 16 bits. that is a representation of real number with finite precision. Imagine like π extending to infinte digits, but usually you do not need all the digits (famously, nasa uses something like 15 or 16 digits after decimal) (in this case 16 bits include the mantisa and exponential and sign bit (1 for sign, maybe 11 bits for mantisa and 4 for exponential, but read about this online, it is not that important for current conversation)). But usually, you do not need all this precision while running the model. so we quantise these models (imagine rounding to lesser precision). A common quant is q4 (4 bits as opposed to 16). but there is some stuff we do not round that much, we do it to something like 8bits (these gives us the extra letters in q4″km“). Quantisation is not a free operation. What you gain in reduced memory usage, and slightly faster computation, you loose it in smartness, but trade off is usually worth it. You can measure the amount of smarts you loose by measuring something called “perplexity”, and you measure the amount of difference from the unquantised model. the lower the perplexity, the better the quant. Usually, you do not want to go below q4. But for huge models (670/1000+), you have to use something like q1 or q2, because you got to do what you got to do to atleast run it. So you can imagine that q4km would roughly require 0.6 times number of bytes, so in this case, something like 12-13 GB. You have to hold all this in memory.

Ideally, both your context plus model weights should be held in vram, and size of context varies by model, but I usually do not think much of context (32k context requires close to 10GB of vram iirc, my stuff never usually goes beyond 4-6k).

Many people can not afford much of vram, so run cpu and ram combos.

In this case, I have heard that with 8GB vram, and 64GB system memory, someone ran gpt oss 120b for roughly 10-11 tps, which is quiet fast imo, because active params ~6B.

But user here has a total of 40GB, so the best they can do is 32GB dense, so qwen3 32 B is good, but I think that would not be fast on that hardware, so I recommended something much smaller.

11. In reply to Which of the 3 standard compression algorithms on Unix (gz, xz, or bz2) is best for long term data archival at their highest compression?

It feels like a xy problem. If i am not wrong, single bit corruption leaving file unextractable is a bit wild, and my guess is that it’s headers were blown.

As for general stuff, use a file system which does parity calc and such. Or use something like raid to have redundant drives. (You can set something like 1 in 5 breaks, or 2 in 5, but more you allow to break, less actual space usable you would have). Or have really simple backups.

As to physical media - do not go flash based (ssd/sd cards/usb pen drives) if you want to leave them unpowered. They expect to be powered once every few months. They are effectively ram disks but like much more stable. Hard disk drives are better, but handle physical shocks much worse. You can drop a ssd and expect it to work. for a hard disk it is almost game over. Magnetic tape are better, they are much less data dense, but they are cheap.

> I would assume it’s lossless

yes. these are lossless algorithms.

Now coming to compression - no compression practically deals with bit corruption. Practically all compression formats aim for small size and or fast (de)/compression. Saving parity bits is wasteful.

If you can install some thing, try, for eg, https://github.com/Parchive/par2cmdline. You give whatever file (compressed or not), and it will generate parity bits so you can repair stuff. Now use whatever compression you want, and prepare parity bits for worst case.

As to what compression algorithm, zip or gzip (deflate), bzip2 (or newer 3), xz (lzma in general), and zstandard (or older lz4), brotli are practically not going anywhere. most distros use them, they are used on web, and many other places. My favorite is zstadard as it gives great compression and extremely fast.

> Do any of them have the ability to recover from a bit flip or at the very least detect with certainty whether the data is corrupted or not when extracting?

no and no.

You should also consider file archive format. for example zip (the format, not algo) or tar are effictively standards and stable, and practically here forever. there are mountable ones like squashfs (also fairly common. Most linux distros use it for live images) and dwarfs (not yet a standard, imagine squashfs but also deduplicating).

> Do compression formats exist (or can they exist) which correct for bit flop

yes

If your goal is that a single bit flip should not ruin it, you should probably not look into deduplicating ones (they are reducing the number of bits stored, so in case a bit flip happens, less files would be corrupted).

Now coming to another part - do you want to compress data ? if so, why?

When you compress data, you literally reducing number of bits. now imagine if all bits on your disc are equally likely to undergo bitrot. if so, compressing makes your files less likely to rot.

but as you have also said, it is possible that if they corrupt, the corruption is more catastrophic (in a plane text file, this may just mean a character mutated, or in a image, some color changed. Hardly problematic).

So you should also check - is compression worth it? Come up with a number, lets say 90%. If compression algorithm reduces file size to 0.93 the original, do not go for compression. if it does, do compress. I am not saying pick 90%, but like decide on one you seem content with.

here is a stupid idea. if compression reduces file size by 2x, then compress, and make yet another copy. now even if one is corrupted, you have a pristine copy.

12. [spoiler] [ch 1163] ONE PIECE Chapter 1163 - Promise - Summary. And a crazy big theory which is relevant and got updated this chapter. And some non spoiling discussion on why I wanted to post spoilers

this post is a bit special because I kinda explained why i got into spoiler stuff

stuff stolen from - reddit.com/r/OnePieceSpoilers/comments/1odbssc/one_piece_chapter_1163_summary/

More details of the chapter, thanks to redon from Arlong Park Forums. Chapter of 17 pages.

SPOILER

Chapter 1,163: “Promise”.

Reader request in the cover: “Luffy doing parkour and jumping between buildings with 2 monkeys”.

Chapter starts with Imu (over Saturn’s body) attacking indiscriminately all pirates and Marines in God Valley. Then Imu came face to face with Rocks.

Rocks: “Hey!! King of rats over there!!! You are here to kill me aren’t ya!?”

Imu: “To think it was you… Davy Jones!!!”

Rocks: “I think you got the wrong person there, I never even met that fella… However… a “PROMISE” ought to be kept won’t ya agree…”

Imu: “…!! AND THAT’S WHY you all need to be erased!! Completely eradicated from history!!! Mu’s world is not yet completed…!!!”

Rocks: “This world IS NOT YOURS!!!”

Rocks and Imu began to fight. At the same time Garp arrived at the scene with some Marines and walked toward the fight. He saw how Imu attacked pirates and Marines.

Marines: “Garp-san, should we provide backup?”

Garp: “Of course we should!!”

Marines: “But… to whom!?”

Cut to Roger Pirates Vs. Rocks Pirates. In a GREAT double page, Captain John used “Jiki Jiki no Mi” fruit power (the same fruit Kid has in the present) to collect all treasures for himself with magnetic power.

Captain John: “Come to me, treasures!!! “Big Eater” (kanjis mean “Big Magnetic Grasp”)!!!”

Gaban: “All metals are reacting to it!! Don’t let your weapons be taken!!!”

Roger Pirates: “Strong magnetic force detected from the entrance of the valley to the southeastern region of the island!!”

Roger: “Out of my way!! I don’t give a damn!!”

Despite the strength of the magnetic power, Roger continued running towards the place where Imu and Rocks were fighting.

Ganzui saw what Captain John was doing, so he attacked him with “Bomu Bomu no Mi” fruit power (the same fruit Mr. 5 has in the present). Ganzui shot a dried mucus to Captain John using an attack called “Sky Snake Red Cannon” and defeated him.

Dragon’s gun was also pulled by Captain John magnetic power, so Dragon fell on the ground when Captain John was attacked and passed out. Dragon and Shanks got separated and then we can see that Shanks climbed into one of the treasure chests.

Cut again to the place where Imu and Rocks were fighting. Garp arrived but a group of Marines were grabbing him to try to stop Garp.

Marines: “No, you can’t do it Vice Admiral Garp!! That’s the “highest authority of the World Government”…”

Garp: “You mean that vermin!?”

Kaidou asked Rocks to let him have a go too, but suddenly Linlin arrived flying on Zeus and attacked Kaidou. Roger finally arrived too and prepared to attack Imu.

Linlin (angry): “Hold on a second now, Kaidou   !!! I’m going to kill you!!”

Kaidou: “You are jealous, right!? Watch this!!”

Roger: “Garp, that’s my target!!”

Then, in ONE OF THE MOST EPIC double pages in all “One Piece”, Garp, Roger, Rocks, Newgate, Kaidou, and Linlin attacked Imu together!!!

Garp: “”Galaxy Impact“!!!”

Roger: “”Kamusari“ (Divine Departure)!!!”

Rocks: “”Pandæmonium“ (kanjis mean “Cursed Abyss”)!!!”

Newgate: “”Hakua“ (kanjis mean “Space Breaker”)!!!”

Linlin: “”Ikoku“ (Ikoku Sovereignty)!!!

Kaidou: “”Dragon“!!!”

All those massive attacks destroyed Imu’s body.

Linlin was trying to attack Kaidou, but Kaidou dodged the attack and it hit on Imu’s body instead. Kaidou attack was a “Bolo Breath” but since it was the first time Kaidou used it, he hadn’t yet decided what name to give it looool

Lamentably, Imu recovered from the attacks immediately. And then, Imu unleashed a super massive wave of Supreme King Haki that made a lot of people in God Valley lose consciousness.

Despite everything, Rocks continued attacking Imu and he even managed to cut Imu’s body into pieces with his sword. But it was useless against Imu.

Imu: “Mu can see your wife and son running through the forest…”

Rocks: “Don’t you dare even touch them!!!”

Imu (still cut into pieces) stabbed Rocks body with two black tentacles.

Imu: “Rest assured Mu won’t be doing anything…”

Rocks: “Argh!! A mosquito bite is more…”

Imu: “You will be the one who wipes out your entire clan…!! Annihilate your wife and son…”

Rocks: “What!? As if something that absurd…!!”

Imu: “”Domi Reversi“ (Black Conversion Control)”

Rocks: “A… Argh…!!”

In the AMAZING last page of the chapter, Imu used “Domi Reversi” on Rocks while Garp, Roger, Newgate, and Linlin observed in shock what was happening.

Chapter ends with Rocks starting to transform into a demon, we can see how his fangs began to grow. And in the last panel, we see Eris and Teach running through the forest…

End of chapter. NO break next week.

additional theories that i have heard, which were updated this chapter. The ideas are not original - for the latter one - reddit.com/r/OnePieceSpoilers/comments/1od48r2/roger_and_shanks_waited_because_they_knew_how/

But have expanded (added examples basically) on latter one a lot. It is now, “the OP theory” for me atleast. If you do not want to read spoilers, just skip the first para in following, it should mosty work for you.

DOMI REVERSI

It revolves around domi reversi, only proper named move we know of from Imu.

there are 2 parts. one, it requires hurting the foe (in this case, rocks)(earlier one of the main giants). Earlier we (as community) assumed that it has something to do with breaking opponent’s haki (will), and it may still be true (rocks was a bit emotional at the time, worried about family), but now there is an even more important point. the latin (if i am not wrong) origins of the word would translate more literally to ‘domicile (as in place to stay at or home) return (or coming back, as in reversing)’ or simply - home coming. somehow, it only works, when foe is in their homeland (only instances we currently know of are elbaf giants, and now rocks in god valley). there is one more detail - we have fairly good idea that roger was from loguetown, the town where he was executed (there is a line on beggining and end island or something. now beggining may as well mean something like beggining of pirating journey, but hometown fits as well). maybe loguetown was decided as the place for execution, because imu wanted extra insurance that in case something goes wrong, they may reverse roger.

there is another theory related to domi reversi - whole one piece world is efectively a reversi game - there are some symbolisms, like shanks and shamrok (light and dark), there is imu (all black) and luffy (or nika - all white). freedom vs slavery. there is also a game of reversi played by CP0 members in Onigashima (kaido island) where the pieces represented the number of samurais/warriors in each side. there is also a possible idea that one piece - is literally ’one reversi piece’.

And reason for roger’s laughter is simulataneously both - how all of world is just a game in god’s dominion and how the greatest treasure of world, is just a gameset piece. It is also the kind of funny shit Oda can pull off. think how the dorry and broggy 100 year fight started from just a small hunting game, and deciding whose hunt was bigger. maybe fight between joyboy (and/or davy jones) and imu may have just started from ’one piece’. It also fits with the fact that oda has said one piece is something physical, where all the story points to it being something narrative wise metaphysical thing (think the real treasure is the friends we made along the way).

there is another symbolism for fitting the game - the way luffy is. if you see, the way the story is set up, and how rarely do people die, or how many people “flip” sides. Think crocodile started as a villain, became a ally in marineford, ad now is again a villain (at least in a opposing faction), think nico, think mr2 bonclay, or think kanjuro flipping from our side to opponent, think the literal example from manga - in onigashima, warriors flipped and changed allegiances, etc.

Luffy kinda tries to win all reversi mathches - he tries to flip everyone to his side. this is indeed getting a bit weak as argument, as most games have opposing factions, so do most stories, but how often is it where in games, pieces(people) flip sides - in chess, you can promote a piece (pawn to queen - something like buggy the clown - a middling pirate become a younko), but in chess - pieces die (a lot) - something which OP is infamous at not doing.

The Reversi theory works at so many levels, that it has now become my favorite OP theory.

non spoiler question - is this format fine? i think i have not left anything spoiler filled non marked, except the chapter title - i have no way to add spoiler to title.

Secondly the reason why i wanted to post spoilers, was that reddit spoilers community is one of the best places i have found for one piece discussion of latest manga cannon. the main OP comm in reddit is too random, and i do not like there are not many discussions regarding chapter. there is anime, adjacent media (games, dress ups, art), as well as other discussion. Earlier i found powerscaling sub, they atleast discussed chapter in main thread of week, but rest of threads were either filled with stupid propoganda wars (younko vs admirals, shanks vs mihawk, etc.) and i really hated that. then i found pirate folk, and did not knew they were a “hate watcher” community. so first few times, i liked how they were more critical, but eventually it got tiring. I (still not knowing the hate watcher part) thought why do they even read it if they just have to criticise OP.

then I stopped checking any other community. i know there are many OP communities outside of reddit, and i was(am) still subscribed to youtubers doing chapter break downs, but i never bothered trying other comms because many of them are too niche (either they heavily use japanese names and terms, which i do not know), or have actual japanese speaker writing in japanese as well.

I found onepiecespoilers, and onepiecetheories, and they are great. spoilers is bigger, and they have good (and healthy) discussion of chapter, as well as from the nature of being spoiler fueled, there is something which is added each day. well starting mostly from monday with hints (just reactions from some prominent folks, which are usually - “epic shit” and something like “mu”). they do not reveal much of anything. then there are brief spoilers on tuesdays (about 5-6 lines), usually by redon. they just give very basic idea, and major plot points.

brief spoiler for this week

-COVER IS LUFFY DOING PARKOUR WITH SOME MONKEYS

-IMU CALLS ROCKS DAVY JONES BUT ROCKS REPLIES HE’S NOT THAT GUY.

-ROCKS: “BUT I DO AGREE THAT WHAT IS “PROMISED” MUST BE FULFILLED!!”

-BIG MOMS JOINS THE TRIO IN THE BATTLE.

-THEY ATTACK TOGETHER, SCENE CHANGE

-ROGER PIRATES STILL CLASH WITH ROCKS PIRATES WHO START FIGHTING EACH OTHER (JOHN VS GANZUI)

-GARP AND ROGER JOINS AGAINST IMU, XEBEC AND HIS TOP 3 ALL ATTACK TOGETHER.

-THERE’S AN EPIC DOUBLE PAGE WITH ROCKS, ROGER, GARP, WHITEBEARD, KAIDO AND BIG MOM ATTACKING IMU ALL TOGETHER.

-BUT EVEN THAT MASSIVE ATTACK, IMU RECOVERS.

-CHAPTER ENDS WITH IMU USING DOMI REVERSI ON ROCKS AND ORDERING TO KILL HIS FAMILY.

NO BREAK NEXT WEEK.

these are enough to spoil someone who is here just for upper parts of story, but often oversimplify, sometimes even getting some nuanced things wrong.

by wednesday, normal spoilers are posted, which i have posted here (so i am one day behind posting them here). This is practically the best you can get before getting the raw scans on thursdays. sometimes raws have all the text painted out, so you still can not make out proper story. by friday mid-end day, we get scanlations, by 2-3 groups. there is OPSCANS and there is TCB Scans, and some others. among thesee I generally read TCB Scans, but i do not have any proper reason for this preference. if i am early, and tcb is unavailable, i just read the OPSCANS.

Each day some tidbits come, and we get chapter by friday night or saturday morning. whole week remains interesting.

If you guys feel this is a good way, then I shall continue this approach.

I would not be able to do everyday, but I can try to post the spoilers by wednesday. OnePiece

13. why anubis or other scraper blocks might be necessary today

Earlier, scrapers were not harming a website much. maybe 1 or search engine hits a day, and just a handful of search engines meant that they would not consume much resources. they would scrape your data, but just so search would work (otherwise all search would just work on your website’s title). this did not harm the websites’ business model (if they had any).

it went downhill when google started giving dires “answers” to search queries. mostly based on wiki, but occasionaly other stuff like reddit. this was often just relevant bit from “high match” website and while it reduced some traffic to those webistes, it was not as bad as it is today - where all most all traffic is from scraping bots, and many just have stopped visiting sites directly.

14. YSK that risks to exposure of nuclear radition are often over exaggerated by considering a Linear No Threshold (LNT) model, which does not match with many studies.

linked to the video Big Nuclear’s Big Mistake - Linear No-Threshold by Kyle Hill

This may be a “hot” one, considering lots of people do not like anything nuclear. If you would want to know my “bias”, well I have always been “pro nuclear”. So if you want to take this claim with huge mountains of salts, feel free to do so.

Here is a relevant wiki article for radiation hormesis. This is a proposed effect that certain amounts of radiation exposure may even be beneficial instead of harmful as LNT may suggest.

TL;DW for folks who do not want to watch video (I have not included examples or numbers)

And pre-emptively answering some questions I am expecting to get

Are there not better means of renewable energy generation like

15. renderer.target-fps is not working

A wild github issue appears! what is an issue doing here? Well it is pretty much the best issue (imo) that I have opened in terms of effort that I have put in. Only thing that would come close would be me trying to find why my cpu on my last laptop did not go to lower c states in linux 6.1, when it did go fine in 5.11 (2 different debian version), but I was really new to llinux back them, and knew very little programming to even pretend to find bugs in kernel code. So the best that I could do was “bisect” by running different iso with different kernel versions (absolutely ignoring config changes). Then someone from lkml asked me to compile with single config, and that compile took a long time, and I pretty much gave up. And somehow that problem got automagically solved in 6.3 or 6.4, which I attributed to a change (which matched description well), which I then thought was the fix that was merged, which I then asked Greg Kroah-Hartman (aka 2nd in chief to Linus Torvalds, who maintains the stable(lts) kernel branches, and someone on lkml suggested that I should request for it to be backported to 6.1, since this would be considered a regression) who asked me to get the commit id (I sent the url to patchnotes), which I then asked to author of the patch, who said that patch has not even been merged yet! I pretty much stopped at that point, cause I felt dumb. In hindsight, that was a good decision cause in case it would have come to notice to lkml at large, I would be mocked left, right and center, and Linus would have sent me a personal letter saying how stupid am I (I deserve that, but still). Since I do not have a single source to link to, or the original reporting to debian forums, this note would just have to be here only.

(PS: issue is very long because I have tried to investigate it and wanted to apologise in beggining only in case it is time waste)

I have tried setting many values, and it seemingly does not work. I tried to search issues and also checked config.md in docs in case there has been any change in behaviour but could not find any

I remember it working so i did a poor man’s bisect, and found that it broke between 0.2.20 and 0.2.21 (if I would have read the release notes before trying I would have noticed that 21 had lots of renderer changes and would have just started around it but I am silly).

To reproduce

(On a side note, I have known this problem for a very long time (release time suggest 3.5 months, and not bothered to report it so it is not a critical bug imo)

My config (renderer bits only, although I have commented all other things out for testing, rest are related to color and fonts only). Platform is arch linux (x86-64). testing was done on files from github releases (deb file to be specific), but i usually use arch package only (which has the same issue).

[renderer]

backend = "vulkan"

I an not a real programmer, and not in a situation to do actual git bisect between the commits (I was free enough to do it, though internet uused to download 3 different rust versions, and approximately 8 gibs of storage usage kinda made me regret doing it) I bisected the commits in between and seemingly 163307a2cf83970ba06e1b8833aadd84c590b64c is the first bad commit. there is a possibility that I did run bisect incorrectly, so if anything beyond this point does not make sense, then I am sorry. I am fairly sure that caching the builds of crates in between runs and using sccache should not effect the results (as they work on hashes of files, and assuming they did not change, the resulting code should not change), but just in case it does, I am sorry again. If it helps, I can send/upload the debug builds from last known good commit and first bad in case that helps (maybe a debugger will show better, but I have never used debuggers)(printf only)

This is roughly where my knowledge limits me, and I can not do much more, but I still did glance at the changes and tried to look for things in https://github.com/raphamorim/rio/commit/163307a2cf83970ba06e1b8833aadd84c590b64c and here are my observations

none of the front ends seem to have anything breaking

now checking backend

That is it from my side. And investigation was not succesfull in finding the problem.
